On October 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM, Ghost River Theatre invites Calgary’s directors, makers, and creators to meet Nel Crouch, Bucket Club Director, for an evening of comradery and industry talks about the directing ecosystems of Canada and the UK. Nel is a nimble artist whose practice spans traditional text-based directing to experimental collaborative creation. Topics may include: directing your career as a director, creating a diverse body of work, directing as both a day-job and artistic practice, nurturing international collaboration, exploring the practice of assistant directing, etc.

Nel Crouch is a theatre director and writer working between London, Bristol and Rotterdam. She makes collaborative work spanning new writing, comedy, classics and devising. Interested in making work that invites its audience to play, Nel creates pared back, surprising visual languages and works with live music.

She is director of Bucket Club: a produced company at Farnham Maltings. They've now made four shows which she’s written and directed. THE BEASTS was a devised outdoor family show co-commissioned by the Lyric Hammersmith and Latitude. LORRAINE & ALAN won the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence and a Musical Theatre Network Award for Innovation at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe. FOSSILS was at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe and transferred to Brits Off Broadway in 2017. LAUNCH PARTY, a co-production with Farnham Maltings, toured village halls for six weeks in Autumn 2016. http://www.bucketclub.co.uk/


Bucket Club theatre company (UK) is crossing the ocean and journeying upstream to Ghost River, where the two companies will be collaborating on a new project around the theme of extinction from October 28 – Nov 11, 2019. This collaboration is made possible by funding from the British Council’s New Conversations grant.
