Welcome to 2024-25 at Ghost River Theatre!
Something truly transformative happens when you start to see yourself as an artist. Many believe being an artist is about creating a painting, a performance, or an art installation. However, at Ghost River Theatre, we hold a core belief that being an artist is about how one experiences the world—how one notices the sound of a sparrow in Fish Creek Park, the particular shade of cerulean blue in our big beautiful Alberta sky, or the way a certain fabric’s texture feels like a dance across your skin.
This year, we are privileged to create artistic experiences that invite you to live in the artistic act. We don’t just want you to be observers; we want you to be active participants in the artistic journey, shaping and influencing the experiences with your unique perspectives and reactions. We are fortunate to feature some remarkable artistic perspectives in our 24/25 season.
In September, we are offering you the gift of immersing yourself in the guided creative world of The Room Sculpture Experience. Step into a world of light and sound as you collaboratively construct and deconstruct a unique theatrical sculpture with other audience members. In January, join us at the High-Performance Rodeo as we offer you the healing experience of Echoes of the Land, a sound bath. Bring your yoga mat, sleeping bag, and perhaps even a pillow as you lie in the centre of the West Village Theatre performance space and let the vibrational energy of Stoney Nakoda drummer and vocalist Cedric Lightning’s Grandfather Drum resonate through your body. In February, we are thrilled to host our long-time collaborator Robin Leveroos (GIANT & STRUCK) as our Artist-in-Residence. Robin and I will be developing a new table-top object puppetry show, Transcendent Space. Then share in Robin’s unique talent as she transforms everyday objects into extraordinary performers right before your eyes, in her rauchaus, immersive show Object Runway. In April, GRT will continue developing a new show, Frontier, in collaboration with one of Canada’s finest actors and devisers, Jamie Konchak. Frontier will offer you an alternative experience of Alberta’s Wild West.
Thank you for your unwavering support, for joining us on the artistic journey of our 24/25 season, and for being an integral part of our vibrant artistic community. We deeply appreciate your contribution and look forward to sharing these extraordinary experiences with you.
