Calgary’s Ghost River Theatre and Downstage Theatre are jamming with UK-based Bucket Club theatre company on a new project around the theme of extinction. On November 4th and 5th, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM, we invite the Calgary community to come out to West Village Theatre to join us in this exploration. On these afternoons, the artistic companies are excited to explore herd/flock movement. Participants will be led through an adaptable series of movement activities to see how a large and varied group of humans move through space together. Participants of all ages, movement abilities, trained or untrained, are invited to join this experiment. The artists are keen to have the most varied group of participants possible to accurately and artistically reflect our species.

This is a free community activity. Please wear comfy clothes for moving around and bring indoor/movement friendly footwear. A water bottle is strongly recommended.

The artists are eager to work with a large group of participants: so bring your friends, children, family members, and colleagues out for an afternoon of artistic movement exploration.

Accessibility Notes:

  • There are no change tables at West Village Theatre

  • For little ones, we recommend bringing your own snacks/toys

  • West Village Theatre is somewhat wheelchair accessible, but the bathrooms pose significant barriers: bathrooms do not have handrails, doors into the 2 bathrooms are standard width opening into the bathroom, sink/paper towels are not wheelchair-considerate, and transferring in the bathroom is a tight fit.

  • Access to the theatre is via the alleyway at the back of the building. Depending on snowfall levels, the alley may be rough to traverse. The doors do not open automatically.

Location and Transportation:

West Village Theatre, 2007 10 Ave SW

You will need to enter off the back alley – look for the Ghost River Theatre logo on the door. If you are taking Calgary Transit, probably the easiest way to get here is to walk from the Sunalta C-Train station, which is about 500m east of the theatre on 10th Avenue SW.

If you are driving - there is limited residential parking in the area. Please don’t park in the spaces in front of the theatre.

Bucket Club theatre company (UK) is crossing the ocean and journeying downstream (Downstage Theatre) to Ghost River, where the three companies will be collaborating with on a new project around the theme of extinction from October 28 – Nov 11, 2019. This collaboration is made possible by funding from the British Council’s New Conversations grant.
